Sumaya Kassim

Sumaya Kassim is a writer, editor and curator. Her art criticism and essays have been published in various publications, including the forthcoming essay ‘Museums are Temples of Whiteness’ in Decolonial Art Reader (Routledge) and the widely cited ‘The Museum Will Not Be Decolonised’ (Media Diversified, 2017), which follows the co-curation process of ‘The Past is Now: Birmingham & Empire’ exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. She was a fellow at Tropen Museum, Leiden in 2019 and has spoken across Europe and the world (if Zoom counts!) on institutions, heritage and contentious pasts and presents. Her fiction can be found in publications such as The Good Journal, The Happy Hypocrite and Dardishi Zine. She is prose editor at Middleground, a publication which centres writers and creatives of mixed heritage. She is currently working on a novel, scripts and various museum projects.
