Arabic Calligraphy Course - Naskh Script
5:00 PM - 6:30 PM | Saturday 6th June - 25th July 2026 | MIAH Gallery, Moseley Community Hub | 496 Moseley Road Balsall Heath B12 9AH.
Join us for an 8-week intensive calligraphy course taught by calligrapher Ustadh Ahmad Mohamad.

The course offers a practical introduction to the Naskh script, the traditional script used for copying the Qur'an.

This is an eight-week intensive calligraphy course taught by traditionally-trained calligrapher Ustadh Ahmad Mohamad. Participants will learn the art of Islamic Calligraphy, mastering basic strokes, pen angles and letter construction, moving from the use of calligraphy pens to the qalam/reed pen. Through hands-on guidance, participants will explore techniques and traditions, learning the rules of proportion for all Arabic alphabet letters. Subject to participants' progress, by the end of the course, participants will have had the opportunity to learn all the Arabic letters.*

The course is open to people of all abilities and backgrounds. No knowledge of written or spoken Arabic is required. Participants with some prior experience in calligraphy or an interest in improving their letter formations may also attend.

The course will run weekly from Saturday 6th June to Saturday 25th July 2026, 5 PM - 6:30 PM. The course price includes all eight sessions plus materials.

Suitable for ages 14+

*PLEASE NOTE: The tutor will be teaching specific letters each week as part of an intensive programme. Our tutor is very conscientious about using the session time for correcting the work of individuals after teaching the letter strokes of a letter to the group. Therefore, it is essential that participants attend every week and arrive promptly to get the full benefit of the course. If you miss a week, the illustrated letter template will be provided to you for self-guided practice at home, but the tutor will not be able provide you with 1-1 tutoring during the session to help you catch-up. Similarly, latecomers who miss the teaching of the first letter of the session, will be provided with the letter template to help them practice and might not have the time to teach you separately 1-1.
