Given the fantastic response to our first sold-out Level 1 Calligraphy Course delivered in the Spring, MIAH Islamic Arts & Heritage Gallery is delighted to be able to announce that we are re-running the course!

This six-part workshop series on Arabic Calligraphy will be run by Ustadh Ahmad Mohamad, a traditionally trained calligrapher and member of the Egyptian General Association of Calligraphers.

The sessions comprise a graded learning series introducing students to Arabic calligraphy. Over the course, you will learn how to write Arabic letters and words using a calligrapher's pen, focusing on the essential techniques needed to master the basics of Arabic calligraphy. The course includes practice of individual letters, learning about the balance and proportion of letters, applying calligraphy to different surfaces (such as canvas or cloth), and understanding colour combinations. In addition, students will gain an appreciation for the deeper meaning behind the letters and words, helping them connect with the art form on a more profound level.

These sessions will run weekly from Sunday 3rd August – Sunday 7th September 2025, 3:30pm–5:00pm.
The course price includes all six sessions plus materials.
