Ottoman potters, inspired by the brilliant white of Chinese porcelain, developed some of the most distinctive vases, tiles, and plates in art history. Under sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, artisans decorated their wares in increasingly flowing, natural floral motifs. The Ottoman colour palette enhanced the beauty of their patterns, as craftsmen outlined the flowers in black and painted them with pale purples and greens, and striking deep blues and red.
This workshop is your chance to recreate the wares of classical era Ottomans! During the workshop, you will decorate your own Ottoman trinket dish using Ottoman-inspired floral motifs. You'll outline the motifs in jet-black, which will give them an authentic Ottoman feel alongside the colours you'll use. At the end of the workshop, you'll be able to take your trinket dish home to use as a little storage dish, gift to a friend, or simply as homemade decoration!
This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 11+ of all ability levels. All materials are provided.
