The Museum of Islamic Arts & Heritage (MIAH) Foundation is pleased to announce the launch our new exhibition, From Samarkand to Salerno: Roads of Enlightenment. This exhibition traces the movement of ideas and science along the Silk Roads through the translations, books, and inventions of Arab and Persian thinkers and scientists during the Middle Ages.

The exhibition will run from 15th November 2024 - 21st December 2024 - subject to demand (initially we are releasing November dates).

You can stay up-to-date on this exhibiton and any other upcoming events at the MIAH Gallery here: https://miahfoundation.com/events

THE EXHIBITION:
Through translations, manuscripts, and groundbreaking inventions by Arab and Persian scholars of the Middle Ages, this exhibition reveals how ideas and science traveled across continents, shaping our world today. Featuring artwork from manuscripts, infographics, original objects, facsimiles, short-films and an activity table for different ages to explore the themes of the exhibition, there is plenty to do for everyone.

Public Exhibition Dates: Thursday 14th November to Saturday 21st December 2024; open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Initially we are only releasing November dates - the December dates will only be released if there is sufficient demand beyond November.

Admission: Up to two tickets for free or with optional donation, but must be booked in advance as tickets are limited - please check the registration link for time-slots and to book. As we do not have any external funding to cover the costs of this exhibition, we request attendees make an optional donation of whatever they can afford to help us continue our work. However, for those who cannot afford, we allow up to two tickets to be booked for free. For all bookings of more than two tickets, we request a donation to help cover our costs - we recommend £3-5 per person.

SCHOOLS, HOME EDUCATION & YOUTH GROUPS WELCOME: With material exploring both STEM subjects and history in KS2 (Islamic ‘Golden Age’), KS3 (Silk Roads/Crusades) and KS4 (history of medicine/science), the exhibition makes the perfect school trip. We have a limited number of slots available for guided talks for schools on Thursdays and Fridays. To arrange, please email the following address with the size of your group, 2-3 options for visit dates (Thursdays/Fridays in November to December) and your preferred 90-minute time-slot (12pm, 2:30pm, or 4:30pm): [email protected] to arrange.

Please share and spread the word. We look forward to welcoming you!

A NOTE ABOUT COSTS:

Please note: As a charity with no external or regular funding, we rely on public donations to keep going. To make this exhibition accessible to everyone, we have decided to not charged a set ticket price for entry and to keep if free up to a maximum of two tickets for those unable to pay. For everyone else, we would appreciate if you could leave a donation using the relevant ticket type.
