Arabic calligraphy is one of the three cornerstones of Islamic art decoration alongside floral patterns (arabesques) and geometric motifs. It formed the major artistic centrepiece of the arts of the book, inspiring countless muraqqas and manuscripts, and was prominently used as surface ornamentation in Islamic architecture, especially within decorative bands around important areas like the mihrab.

This workshop is suitable for ages 11+. Some exposure to Arabic lettering may be useful, but is not strictly necessary to take part in this workshop. All materials are provided.
