The Museum of Islamic Arts & Heritage (MIAH) Foundation invites you to join us for an exclusive preview to launch our new exhibition, From Samarkand to Salerno: Roads of Enlightenment. This exhibition traces the movement of ideas and science along the Silk Roads through the translations, books, and inventions of Arab and Persian thinkers and scientists during the Middle Ages.

During this special preview event, you will have the opportunity to hear from Dr Neelam Hussain, the director and curator of this exhibition about the motivation and vision behind this exhibition. The exhibition continues from 15th November 2024 - 21st December 2024 (subject to demand).

THE EXHIBITION:
Through translations, manuscripts, and groundbreaking inventions by Arab and Persian scholars of the Middle Ages, this exhibition reveals how ideas and science traveled across continents, shaping our world today. Featuring artwork from manuscripts, infographics, original objects, facsimiles, short-films and an activity table for different ages to explore the themes of the exhibition, there is lots to do for everyone.

Public Exhibition Dates: Thursday 14th November to Saturday 21st December 2024; open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Initially we are only releasing November dates - the December dates will only be released if there is sufficient demand beyond November.

Admission: Free, but limited tickets so please book in advance (please check our website for timeslots and to reserve your visit).

Schools, scouts and group visits welcome: with material exploring STEM subjects and history in KS2 (Islamic ‘Golden Age’), KS3 (Silk Roads/Crusades) and KS4 (history on medicine/science), the exhibition makes the perfect school trip. We have a limited number of slots available for guided talks for schools on Thursdays and Fridays. Please email [email protected] to arrange.

ABOUT MIAH FOUNDATION EVENTS: The aims of the MIAH Foundation are to promote awareness and understanding of the history, arts, culture and heritage of the Islamic world, as well as the history of Muslims in Britain and Europe through exhibitions, education, workshops and events. We also aim to increase the representation and engagement of people of colour and minority groups of Muslim heritage with the arts, culture and heritage sector, through greater provision that considers their faith and cultural identities. to make as accessible as possible to the public and as such have not charged for entry.

Our long-term objective is to raise funds to establish the UK’s first independent museum dedicated to the arts and heritage of Muslims and the Islamic world.

Please note: As a charity with no external or regular funding, we rely on public donations to keep going. To make as accessible as possible to the public we have decided to not charged a set ticket price for entry and to keep if free for those unable to pay.
